They are especially famous for producing Where There Is No Doctor. (By David Werner with Carol Thurman & Jane Maxwell; Revised/updated 2006 ($22.00 for either English or Spanish version.) This classic been described as "perhaps the most widely-used health care manual in the world." Reading it should be among the first steps for anyone wanting to learn about health care issues facing most of the world's population. The Foundation has published several similar books, such as Where There Is No Dentist; Where Women Have No Doctor; HIV Health and Your Community; Disabled Village Children; Helping Health Workers Learn; and Helping Children Who Are Blind: Family and Community Support for Children With Vision Problems. These books are good gifts for overseas. They also publish two free eight-page newsletters each quarter and have Web links to several other groups helping in developing countries. |
