This organization of former Peace Corps Volunteers and staff promotes global education in the U.S., domestic and international service, and peace building activities the developing world. Its website has excellent information on more than 60 countries and includes a lot of material not covered in the major media. Perhaps they can help you find people with experience in the country in which you are interested. They help link American schools to needs in the developing world and promote investment in a microenterprise program to fight poverty in many countries.
