This non-profit Christian organization fights hunger by providing informational resources and trial packets of seeds to assist small farmers and urban gardeners in developing countries. Their original focus was on Haiti, but now it is worldwide tropical agriculture (involvement in 180 countries). They have a demonstration/training farm in Florida, an intern program, a research library, on-line bookstore, and a vast amount of tropical agriculture information on their website.

One example of ECHO's emphasis is the moringa tree. It is often called the "miracle tree" because the seeds can reduce about 90% of the impurities in drinking water, the leaves are very nutritious for children and adults, it can be a green manure to improve soils, and it's also a livestock feed. ECHO has some pamphlets about it and a book for $18.99 (plus shipping) called the Miracle Tree.

If you are going on an overseas mission trip to where growing food under difficult conditions is a challenge, contact ECHO first for their free "Traveler's Packet". It contains lots of useful information to give to missionaries and national agricultural workers.
