Denton Program
Web: www.dentonfoundation.org
This agency has helped non-profit groups get free cargo transportation on U.S. military transport planes to send humanitarian goods and equipment to many places in the developing world. About 40 plane loads go overseas annually. It's done on a space-available basis, so one may have to wait significantly longer than with commercial transportation (thus usually not practical for sending medicines). Before gathering cargo, contact the Denton Officer listed on the website to learn about the eligibility and possibility of your shipment to the destination country. The minimum weight requirement is usually 2,000 pounds (see the website for exceptions). The recipient must obtain duty-free clearance from the destination country before a Denton application can be considered. The sender must get the goods to a U.S. military air base and have someone in the destination country be responsible for them after they arrive overseas. See the website for further guidelines and an online application. |
