With a goal of “improving global health through education,” they send qualified health professionals overseas to train health care providers in twelve major fields. HVO is a teaching and training organization that supports over 85 programs in more than 25 developing countries. Volunteers can go on short-term trips and share their medical skills and assist in other ways. Their "A Guide to Volunteering Overseas" book (fifth edition) is excellent.
