Volunteers for Prosperity |
|
|
This portal encourages highly skilled American volunteer professionals
to share their skills throughout the developing world. It began
after an executive order by President George W. Bush in 2003 and has
grown to include hundreds of American organizations with thousands of
volunteers. Major areas of emphasis include agricultural
development, health, education, entrepreneurship, informational
technology, and women's issues.
VFP is a flexible alternative to the Peace Corps (which requires two
years). VFP volunteers can serve from a week to a year or more
and are deployed though organizations affiliated with VFP. The
VFP website and its links provide an excellent place for finding
opportunities to share your skills and for organizations meeting the
VFP criteria to publicize and update their activities. Other
American organizations of this kind that are not already in VFP can
apply to join. |
