This Christian group seeks to help millions of adults in developing countries who can't read because of lack of reading glasses to get new ones for 50 cents (including parts and labor). This process involves bending stainless steel wire around a wood form and cutting it. Plastic lens are inserted and held in place by tension. Nationals in many countries have learned to do this and get a modest income. This idea works in remote areas, and no electricity is needed. The training only takes a few hours, and the glasses can be made in 20 minutes with simple tools (see website). |
