Since 1994, this non-profit, non-sectarian organization has fought malnutrition and childhood blindness around the world. Their specialty is providing vitamin A—the lack of which sometimes leads to blindness in over 20 countries. It costs only 25 cents per child per year for one year's supply of vitamin A. Their Operation 20/20 Program is a very effective and inexpensive approach to reducing child mortality--which is reduced by 23% through vitamin A supplentation alone. Although VA does not provide products for short-term mission groups, they work with programs having an on-going presence in developing countries. Check with them to see if they can help. Also see their website for fascinating videos. |
