The Mobility Project E-mail

Tens of millions of people in developing nations need, but cannot afford, wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Over 100,000 wheelchairs annually go into landfills in the U.S.—plus many more discarded crutches, canes, walkers, and various other related items. TMP seeks to bridge this gap by seeking donated used mobility equipment, refurbishing it, and providing training about using it. They encourage wheelchair collection drives and provide opportunities for professional and lay people to go overseas to help distribute the products and teach recipients how to use them. By also including wheelchair sports, TMP helps recipients gain more confidence and skills. TMP works closely with Hope Haven (in Iowa) for equipment refurbishing—see it's website: www.hopehaven.org
