Many people in developing countries have lost a foot or a leg. Named for a city in India, the Jaipur Foot may provide a very inexpensive prosthesis (usually under $50.00 U.S). Both below and above the knee versions are available and may even allow recipients to bicycle, run, lift weights, and climb trees. Although used primarily in India, the Jaipur Foot has been used in many other countries. Rotary International helps support the Jaipur Foot and gave its inventor, Dr. Sethi, their 2001 highest humanitarian award. Their Jaipur Foot website pictures are really amazing. |
